Changes to Import Declarations from 1st January 2022

Happy New Year to all!

With the new year comes further changes to customs procedures for UK importers.

From January 1st 2022, full customs controls have now been introduced for goods moving between Great Britain and the EU.

One of the key changes is that the facility to delay making import declarations for up to 175 days (for non-controlled goods) has been removed, except where goods arrive from Ireland.

This means that for the majority of goods being imported into Great Britain, import declarations and payment of duties will now need to be made at the border at the time of import.

Failure to submit pre-lodged import entries prior to goods arrival will result in imports being delayed at the border.

Access to Export offers a range of Import Management Services, including preparing and submitting your import declarations to the Chamber of Commerce on your behalf.
